ixigo Rebuilds Its App from Scratch with AI at the Core

India’s popular travel platform ixigo has launched what it calls its biggest update since the company was founded in 2007. The entire app has been rebuilt from the ground up with artificial intelligence at its foundation, not as an add-on feature but as the base layer powering every screen, interaction, and stage of the travel experience.

The centerpiece of the new ixigo is TARA, an AI travel assistant designed to be available around the clock. Unlike basic chatbots, TARA is built to be conversational and context-aware, meaning it understands where you are in your journey and responds accordingly. It can track bookings, help with check-ins, suggest discount coupons, and answer travel related questions in Hindi, English, or Hinglish, making it accessible to a wide range of Indian users who are more comfortable switching between languages.

Beyond TARA, ixigo has introduced a feature called Trip Mode, which acts as a travel guide from the moment a user starts thinking about leaving for the airport all the way through to reaching their destination. It pulls together everything a traveller might need in one place, from logistics to on-ground information like weather at the destination.

The app’s homepage has also been redesigned to adapt in real time based on each user’s preferences, past behaviour, and current stage of travel. This means no two people opening ixigo will see the same home screen, making the experience feel more personal and relevant.

The search functionality has also been upgraded significantly. Users can now describe what they are looking for in natural language, whether that is a hotel with a specific view or the cheapest date to fly on a particular route, and the AI will interpret and match results accordingly. This removes the friction of manually filtering through options and makes finding the right booking faster.

ixigo says this rebuilt version is designed for 150 million Indians who rely on the platform for their travel needs, and positions the new app as the future of how India books and experiences travel.
