Sumit Jain, Co-Founder of Unacademy Test Prep, has officially moved on from Unacademy after a six-year journey with the company. The news was confirmed through posts shared by both Jain and Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal on LinkedIn, where each reflected on the chapter they shared together at one of India’s most recognised edtech platforms.
In his farewell message, Sumit Jain described his six years at the company as a ride he would never trade for anything else. He highlighted the conversations, the learning, and the memories that were built along the way. Jain also expressed deep pride in being part of a company he credited with achieving several industry firsts and setting high standards of excellence in the education technology sector.
Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal took to LinkedIn to announce Sumit’s departure and pay tribute to his contributions. Munjal noted that Sumit had joined as a Co-Founder in 2020 and played a key role in building Graphy and helping make the offline business profitable, two significant milestones for the company. Munjal also shared that he had known Sumit since 2013, when CommonFloor acquired a company called Flatchat, underscoring the depth of their professional relationship that spanned well over a decade.
The departure of a founding team member often signals a transition point for any startup. Sumit Jain’s exit comes after notable contributions to Unacademy’s product and business expansion efforts. While no details about his next move were shared in the posts, the warm tone of both announcements suggests the transition was a mutual and respectful one. For Unacademy, it closes a significant chapter while acknowledging the foundation that Jain helped build during his tenure.
The edtech sector in India has seen considerable shifts in recent years, and Unacademy has been at the centre of much of that change. Sumit Jain’s exit is likely to be closely watched by industry observers as the company continues to navigate its growth and offline profitability strategy.
