Walmart-owned Flipkart is reportedly planning to enter India’s movie and concert ticketing business, marking a significant expansion beyond its core ecommerce operations.
The timing makes sense given how India’s live entertainment sector has been picking up pace. From big cricket fixtures to international concert tours, more people across the country are actively spending on in-person events, making ticketing a high-potential segment.
According to reports, Flipkart is targeting a launch as early as May. If the plans go through, it will go head to head with BookMyShow and Zomato’s District, both of which currently dominate this space.
The broader context also favors this move. With smartphone penetration rising and consumers increasingly willing to spend online, Flipkart is positioning itself to tap into sectors where digital spending is growing fast.
