Apple has announced a major leadership change. Tim Cook, who has led the company for over a decade, will be stepping down as Chief Executive Officer and moving into the role of Executive Chairman on the board of directors. Taking his place as the new CEO will be John Ternus, currently serving as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. The change is set to take effect on September 1, 2026, and was approved without any objections from Apple’s Board of Directors.
Until the transition happens, Cook will continue heading the company while working alongside Ternus to ensure a smooth handover. In his new role as Executive Chairman, Cook is expected to stay involved in areas such as government relations and policy engagement on behalf of Apple.
Ternus is not new to Apple, having spent over 25 years contributing to the company’s hardware direction. Cook praised him as someone who brings together technical thinking, a drive for innovation, and strong leadership values, calling him the right person to guide Apple’s future.
