The push to electrify commercial vehicles in India is no longer held back by demand, it is held back by infrastructure. Exponent Energy, a company building the charging backbone for fleet operators, has just secured a major vote of confidence from investors to solve exactly that problem.

The Funding Round

Exponent Energy has closed a ₹200 crore ($21.1 million) funding round co-led by 360 ONE Asset and TDK Ventures. The round also saw Hitachi Ventures participate, marking the Japanese firm’s first investment in India’s energy sector. The size of the raise and the profile of the backers reflect growing institutional interest in companies building the foundational layer of the EV ecosystem.

The company has developed a proprietary energy stack that allows commercial electric vehicles to charge fully in just 15 minutes. Alongside the speed, the technology comes with a 3,000-cycle life warranty using standard lithium-ion cells. For fleet operators who run vehicles across long hours and multiple shifts, both of these factors directly impact the economics of switching to electric.

The broader trend this funding round signals is a shift in where capital is flowing within the EV space. Investors are increasingly interested in the companies building around vehicles, charging technology, energy management, fleet financing, and asset utilisation, rather than the vehicle manufacturers themselves. As more fleets move toward electrification, the supporting infrastructure becomes the critical bottleneck and, therefore, the critical opportunity.

Exponent Energy plans to put the fresh capital toward expanding into new cities, entering more vehicle categories, and stepping up research and development. The company is positioning this as the beginning of what it calls “Exponent 2.0” a new phase of growth.

Looking ahead over the next 6 to 12 months, capital is expected to keep flowing toward EV infrastructure platforms that can show real-world deployment, strong utilisation numbers, and clear commercial value for fleet operators, not just forecasts built on EV adoption projections.
