Captain Fresh Acquires Spain’s Frime S.A.U. to Build a Global Tuna-to-Crustacean Seafood Empire

Shrimp, salmon, and tuna together make up nearly 40–45% of total global seafood trade. Captain Fresh Group has now built a presence in all three.

The company already held strong ground in crustaceans through brands like CenSea, Ocean Garden, Senecrus, and Ocean Edge, and in salmon through KORAL. The missing piece was tuna and that gap is now closed with the addition of Frime, S.A.U., Spain’s leading sustainable tuna processor.

Frime brings nearly 50 years of expertise in premium yellowfin tuna, along with its retail brand Køldfin. On the production side, it operates across four sites with seven factories, capable of handling 15,000 tons of frozen, 9,000 tons of fresh, and 3,800 tons of semi-preserved products annually.

The business logic is simple: Captain Fresh can now scale Frime’s tuna through its US network, while also pushing its crustacean and salmon brands deeper into Southern Europe each side of the portfolio strengthening the other. With Frime in the fold, Captain Fresh has a credible position across the three biggest categories in global seafood trade.
